Ask the Plant Doctor » Aralia- Colony of bugs
Hey Elayna...Sounds to me like you have aphids and possibly white flies. When I see the words "green bumps" put together, I think aphids, but it could also be scale. Anyhoo, if you do have aphids you can make your pesticide that won't be too harmful to you or the plant. You can mix 3 ingredients that you likely have at home already: rubbing alcohol, dishwasher soap and warm water. There are many recipes that call for different amounts of each ingredient, and I don't have one preference over the other really. I would do an internet search to find the correct concentrations. Sometimes you will see a 50:50 dilution of the alcohol with a couple of teaspoons of dishwasher soap, but many may say that is too strong. In reality, I think you can come up with a fine mixture following a standard recipe online.
Ask the Plant Doctor » Aralia- Colony of bugs
My chicken gizzard Aralia has a colony of insects on it. They are mostly on the new growth. All over the leaves and stems. Green bumps then they turn to white tiny flies. I never seem to see them move. I see the dead ones on the floor and window sill. There also seems to be a sticky substance on the leaves. What is this and how do I get rid of it? I have tried systemic granules and Pyola insect spray but did not seem to even penetrate at all.
Feature Ideas » Multiple Reading Combination
It would be really wonderful to be able to add multiple readings of the same spot/location at different times of year to the database for the algorithms to crunch on. I understand that readings of one spot in June can be vastly different from September due to variables that no reasonable algorithm can take into account (Deciduous trees, structures etc. etc.). If the web site allowed one to combine multiple reading at different times of the year it might really boost the applicability of the recommendations. No change to the device, just the algorithms and the site. Wonderful product. Thank you!

Becky- Can you check to make sure your Companion Software is running? It's a little "bloom" in your system tray. Edith
Ask the Plant Doctor » Can you add Hazelnut's to the database?
Very cool! I like to see you getting involved in horticulture. But is there no way you know for sure which hazelnut you want? We currently have 3 species of hazelnut (genus name: Corylus) in the database. Let me know if you find any more information about these hybrids. Cheers...Dr. Robby
Technical Help » Recommendation won't read
I left my unit outside over 24 hours in Recommendation mode. When I plug it into my USB, it won't launch a browser or read my data. I have done it successfully 2 other times. Why won't it work this 3rd time? Thanks, Becky
Feature Ideas » remote sensing
This is something I would really like to see the EasyBloom incorporate in its future designs. Being able to receive live feed back at any time would be great. That way I can check how my plants are doing while I'm on vacation or I don't have to trudge out into the pouring rain and retrieve my sensor to see if my plants I'm monitoring like the rain. Great suggestion, Mary. -Nick
Ask the Plant Doctor » Can you add Hazelnut's to the database?
I'm going to join the arborday.org hazelnut project and would like to monitor the trees when i plant them. They are a hybrid so not sure if you can add them. thanks
Feature Ideas » Provide access to data
I would love access to the raw data. It would be even better if you provided an API to interact with the device. I love my sensor and I think people give that level of access could develop all sorts of interesting uses for the easy bloom. Its a wonderful little device and I think the open source community could really get inventive with it. One thing that I think would be nice to be able to do is to publish a summary of the data elsewhere, ie on my own blog. Which is something I could easily write if I had access to the data.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers, Dr. Robby
