There are only about 28 known species in the genus Livistona, native to a range of habitats in the warmer parts of Asia and Australia.
The Chinese Fan Palm is mostly native to Southern Japan although it does of some presence in Southern China and Taiwan. It can grow to be around 40' tall, but as an indoor plant it generally grows much shorter. It is best known for its fan-shaped leaves.

Sow seeds in spring, at 73ºF (23ºC).
Grows best with full sun or partial shade. Where Livistona is not hardy, raise plants indoors as houseplants, or in a cool or warm greenhouse. In warmer areas, grow as specimen plants.
Blooms bowl-shaped, 3-petaled flowers.
Does best in fertile, moist, yet well-draining soil. Soil-based potting mixes work fine for indoor plants. Water freely during the growing season, sparingly in winter.
Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer on a monthly basis during the growing season.

Prone to tar spot, butt rot, and bud rot. Scale insects and spider mites may also cause problems, especially for young plants.
